On January 28, 2016, two men wanted for arrest by the sheriff’s department were located and arrested by officers of the London Police Department. This department obtained warrants for their arrests following an investigation into a theft that occurred during Sunday morning church services on January 17.
A search warrant executed at an apartment complex along American Greeting Card Road led London police to find and arrest 35-year-old Joshua C. Buchanan and 35-year-old William P. North. The warrant was the result of a joint investigation by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, London Police Department and Laurel County Sheriff’s Department. Also arrested were 27-year-old Brandon Allen and 41-year-old Jewel Kidd. Guns, drugs and money were seized. Buchanan and North face multiple charges that include counts of theft, criminal mischief and also fraud. North and Buchanan also face felony charges unrelated to this department’s investigation. All four were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
The sheriff’s department investigation began when a vehicle parked outside a church was broken into. Around the same time that day, Jan. 17, vehicles outside two other Whitley County churches were broken into. The suspects’ van, as seen in surveillance footage obtained by Deputy James Fox, resembled the van connected to very similar crimes in Laurel County.
The sheriff’s department greatly appreciates the public’s assistance in sharing those surveillance photos.
