On November 25, 2016, Whitley County E911 received a call suggesting that a man was attempting to break into the Canadatown Market. Deputies were given a description of a male suspect and a truck that the isuspect was believed to be driving.
Deputy James Tabor was first to arrive and located a 2000 model Chevrolet pickup truck matching the suspect vehicle. Dep. Tabor stopped the vehicle and made contact with Kenny Ray Prewitt, 47, of Hwy 1481.
Prewitt was unaware of the time of day and showed signs of intoxication. It was determined that Prewitt’s truck was not properly registered or insured.
Prewitt was arrested and charged with DUI, third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, failure to produce an insurance card and failure to register or transfer registration of a motor vehicle.
Dep. Tabor was assisted by deputies Jonas Saunders and Brian Hensley. Prewitt was lodged in the Whitley Co. Detention Center.
